Famen Temple is a nearly 2,000 year old Buddhist temple located about 120km west of Xi'an in Fufeng County. It was likely constructed in the days of Emperor Huan of the Han Dynasty. IT went through alternating periods of prosperity and decline, depending upon the fortune and favor of the ruling dynasties. It is the site of a number of Buddhist relics, including a finger bone supposedly belonging to the Buddha. If you visit, be aware there is a 'New temple', which has been somewhat commercialized, and an 'Old temple' which is where many of the relics are held.
