Probably the most well-known and widest available of the Trappist beers, Westmalle produces excellent examples of the dubbel and trippel style trappist ales. In fact, the golden Westmalle ale was the first ale to use the term trippel. The first beer was brewed at the Westmalle abbey on August 1st, 1836, though the abbey itself was founded in 1794.
