Bartholomé Hanssens, mayor of Dworp, bought an old dairy farm in 1896 and decided to convert it into a brewery. From 1929 Theo Hanssens took over the running of the business and knocked down the remaining walls of the brewery. He, in his turn, was succeeded by his son Jean, who went on to win the “Objective Beer tasters' Prize” (OBP) in 1993. Since 1998 the company has been run by Jean's daughter Sidy. Hanssens Artisanaal launched its "Oud Beitje" in 1999. It is a strawberry-flavoured Lambic beer that is primarily marketed as an aperitif. Their offerings include:
Hanssens Experimental Cassis - Lambic - Fruit 6.0% ABV
Hanssens Experimental Raspberry - Lambic - Fruit 6.0% ABV
